RESEARCH COORDINATOR
​

About:
IYRC has an annual Tokyo Explore Program, Medicine and Research Summer Program, STEM Winter Program, ACComPLISHED Community Health Program, as well as 2 conferences and programming throughout the year. This application is role of
Research Coordinator.

The Research Coordinator plays a pivotal role in driving successful research initiatives within the IYRC programs. This position combines meticulous coordination, analytical prowess, and a passion for advancing knowledge among our youth participants and across our programs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in research methodology, statistical analysis, and qualitative and quantitative research techniques.

 Key Responsibilities:
  • Run a biweekly lab meeting
  • Paired t-test pre- and post assessment
  • ANOVA
  • Thematic analysis
  • Using pubmed and other research databases
  • Systematic review writing
  • Reading student ressearch
  • Work with Program Director to expand programming
  • Coordinate and facilitate research activities.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Prepare research reports and presentations.
  • Ensure compliance with research protocols and regulations.
 
Description:
  • Research Coordinators collaborate with researchers, educators, and other stakeholders to design and execute research projects within and about the program that align with the program's goals. This involves understanding the research objectives, identifying appropriate methodologies, and developing a comprehensive research plan. Our programming primarily conducts systematic reviews.
  • Oversee all aspects of research projects, including study design, data collection, and analysis. This includes managing research timelines and resources, ensuring efficient utilization and adherence to schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with research protocols, ethical guidelines, and regulatory requirements throughout all research activities. This involves obtaining institutional review board approval, adhering to informed consent procedures, and protecting the rights and privacy of research participants.
  • Provide guidance and support to students, fostering a collaborative research environment. This involves training, assigning responsibilities, and providing mentorship and feedback.
  • Read and review student research submissions
  • Collect and analyze data to assess program effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and make evidence-based decisions. Prepare comprehensive evaluation reports that highlight key findings, recommendations, lessons learned, and suggestions for future program development.
  • Analyze pre and post test data from participants usually involving paired t-test and ANOVA on multiple choice, true/false, and Likert scales.
  • Conduct a thematic analysis on student reflections
  • Design and implement data collection strategies, employing appropriate methods for quantitative and qualitative data gathering. This includes developing surveys, questionnaires, and interview protocols, as well as selecting appropriate sampling techniques.
  • Utilize statistical software and qualitative analysis techniques to analyze collected data. This involves cleaning and organizing data, conducting descriptive and inferential statistical analyses, and identifying patterns and trends.
  • Interpret research findings, identifying patterns, trends, and insights relevant to youth health education.
  • Communicate research results through reports, presentations, and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed conferences and journals. This involves writing clear and concise research reports, presenting findings at conferences and workshops, and preparing manuscripts for submission to scholarly journals.
  • Actively seek opportunities for research collaboration, networking with professionals. This involves attending conferences, joining professional organizations, and building relationships with other researchers.
  • Engage in continuous learning. This involves reading research papers, attending workshops and seminars, and taking online courses.
  • Mentor and train student and volunteer researchers, fostering a culture of research excellence within the program. This involves providing guidance and support to students and volunteers, helping them develop their research skills, and encouraging their professional development.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated proficiency in research methodology, statistical analysis, and qualitative research methods.
  • Experience conducting research is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey research findings to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Genuine passion for promoting youth health and well-being through research and advocacy.
  • Ideal for premed or community health focused individuals.

Compensation:
  • Estimated: $5,000 per year at ~5 hours/ week
    • (Estimation based on standard engagement. Actual pay may be lower or higher based on performance. Transparent breakdown of compensation provided).
  • Breakdown:
    • $15/ hour of staff meetings (~1h/ week)
    • $20/ hour of lab meetings (~ 1h biweekly)
    • $10/hour of data analysis and presentation (~3h/week)
    • $250 for each professional conference presentation about IYRC programming (this is not the high school students but the programming itself)
      • Construct abstracts for program relevant conferences (ex. CUGH, IAMSE, SOPHE, AAN, etc.)
      • Additional stipend for conference fee/ poster/ travel assistance.
    • $10 bonus per research project with a listed teaching fellow mentor that is accepted and presented at a conference (including IYRC).
    • Additional opportunities for hours available
